I'm 53 and work with autistic children as a teaching assistant, hold 2 other part time jobs as a handyman and struggle to decide whether to have a sandwich for lunch or buy gas to get to work. My car is a 96 Honda Civic with 217,000 miles, and a slipping clutch. I work hard every day to support my wife who needs monthly medication, and also have three kids. we live in a humble house built in 1947. Our family has plenty of love. But, because I was out of work for a year, two years ago, we have refinanced ourselves into a stable debt that keeps us literally living week to week. I juggle bills every month to keep us from going deeper, but can just barely stay current in the "intrest only" payments. The kids don't ask me for anything that costs money because they know the answer is already "I'm sorry, we can't afford it." My wife works as a secretary, who shops at "Good Will" and together we share a dream of just catching up. If we could just catch up, we have a diciplined lifestyle in place to use what we wouldn't have to pay in extra bills to care for the family in a simple, decent and responsible way. We both got started late in our financial lives because we were missionaries for 20 years in other countries, rather than career builders. We have no regrets, but could use a helping hand. Donations of money or a working car is my hopeful request. Thank you in advance to anyone able to assist us.
